Vochysia lucida C. Presl

December 19, 2009

The local Vochysia is in mass bloom now, showing off its festive bright-yellow spikes. It’s a common species here and is called locally ‘burasica’.

SpeciesLink database (http://splink.cria.org.br/centralized_search?&setlang=en) cites its collections mainly for Bahia and Pernambuco, with a couple of collections for Roraima.

Xylocopa bees have been seen visiting Vochysia flowers.

My own collection at the HUEFS is Popovkin 446.
